Bonjour everyone! Can’t believe it has already been one month since we left! It seems like it has been longer. I’m glad that we have been keeping so busy – it makes it easier to be away from HOME.

Well this week we moved into our new semi-permanent flat. It’s in the town of Palavas – right on the Mediterranean Sea. So when we come home after a long day out, we can talk a nice little walk on the boardwalk or just sip a glass a “vin” on our terrace and watch the waves. It’s nice to feel settled down and get everything unpacked. No more going to the “laverie” or laundry mat. We have a “proper” (again using my English accent) washing machine. Look at the pictures below of our dryer.

The weather this week has cooperated with us finishing the campaign work. Monday morning started off raining but the afternoon and the rest of week was sunny, sunny and sunny. In fact, I need to put on my sunglasses right now and it’s only 10 am! Sorry – I know it has been raining there in Oregon (surprise).

Service has been going very well. While we are in the territory, if we hear anyone speaking English or look like they may (getting easier to tell), then we talk to them. Chris has been doing great at this. Just in the last couple days, he has received about 3 or 4 phone numbers from people from Africa that want to continue their conversation. It is awesome! We hope street witnessing becomes a regular part of our ministry even when we return home. For some reason it seems easier here. It think it’s because when you normally think other people are listening, you may get a little nervous (that dumb ole fear of man). But here, most everyone around you don’t speak or understand English so they don’t know what you are talking about. And now we are very excited to concentrate on return visits now the campaign has finished. We will keep you updated on the progress. Hope everyone else had great success as well. This was a great tract eh? (no I’m not Canadian now).

You all would not believe how many dogs are going loose around here. And if you know me, you know how I am fearful and will even leave you at the door in the ministry (sorry if I have done this to you…you know who you are). Well, anyway, most of the street people have 2 or 3 or more dogs with them begging for money or food. Someone said they do this since the police will probably not bother to get them off the street as they would have to do something with their animals so they leave them alone instead. Clever of these people right? So they don’t have little cute puppies of course. No, they have Rotweillers and other big dogs. And guess what? Yep, I may be cured….one of the sisters here has become my “dog whisperer”. I just walk past them and pay no attention. No crossing the street to avoid them or panic, just ignore them. I love it – I’m in control!

I’ve taken some pics of the mobile stands that some use to do street witnessing. They are real nice. We hope to have one so we can do some witnessing right here on the Sea.

Yesterday, a few of us went ice-skating. It is a real big complex here at a center where they have bowling, restaurants, IKEA and an aquarium. Of course, I was too chicken to skate but after seeing that everyone was having so much fun, Chris decided to get out on the ice, even though he was still dressed from service. I was so proud of him – he didn’t even fall once! Be sure to watch the video of him skating....

Well, must get ready for meeting. Miss you all. Can’t wait for some of you to start visiting now that we have a bigger place. Have a great week. Love you!

  1. La Vie from J'ville.OR, above the smog, where the sun is shining the deer are frolicking, million dollar homes are being built while the poor bloke laying the carpet or installing the windows is losing his home to foreclosure, acres of olive groves are being planted (which take 5 years to harvest) while the line to the food pantry grows longer and longer, the homeless aren't allowed and dogs must be on leashes.

congrats!!!!! dog-free? we have to see it to believe it, but wow, look at all the extra blessings that are coming out of this experience! its seems like it is unending!

i looooooove your clothes dryer, i can just imagine the perfect fresh-mediterrenean-wave scent that your clothes get.

it really seems like you guys are reveling in your new ministry. it makes our hearts happy that even though we are miles apart, we are experiencing the same encounters and efforts in the foreign language service.

p.s. li-li's new word is "hillarious", and she's using it with EVERYTHING. just this evening she said, "this mint is hillarious."

    your faces say it all,
    love,
